These magical stories about Ameer Hamza were first written during the Samanid dynasty in the 10th century, by Abu’l Qasim Hasan Dehlavi, in Persian.
Re-written by Muhammad Hussain Jah in the 16th century, again in Persian, they were commissioned this time by the Mughal emperor Akbar. Full of stunning illustrations, the original copy of this epic tale, Tilism-e-Hoshruba, can now be found in the British Museum.
Muhammad Hussain Jah later also translated these tales into Urdu, and they became an enchanting and essential part of classical Urdu literature.
Later on, these wonderful tales, full of magic and adventures were translated into other languages, and also adapted for children.
