Description

Prophet Zakariya, also known as Zachariah in Christian tradition, is revered as a prophet in Islam. His story is documented in the Quran, where he is depicted as a righteous and devout servant of God. Zakariya was a descendant of the Prophet Dawud (David) and a member of the priestly class.

Zakariya and his wife, who was barren and advanced in age, yearned for a child. Despite their old age and her infertility, Zakariya continued to pray fervently to God for a righteous heir. One day, while he was in the sanctuary, Zakariya received the glad tidings of a son from God. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Zakariya asked for a sign to confirm this miraculous news. God responded by making him mute for three days, during which he communicated with people through gestures.

In due time, Zakariya’s wife conceived and gave birth to a son, Yahya (John the Baptist), who would later become a prophet. Zakariya was overjoyed and thanked God for His mercy. He was entrusted with the responsibility of raising Yahya and nurturing him in the ways of righteousness and devotion to God.

Throughout his life, Zakariya remained steadfast in his faith and dedication to God. He continued to fulfill his duties as a priest and guide his community towards piety and obedience. Zakariya’s story serves as a reminder of the power of prayer, faith, and perseverance in the face of adversity.
