Mr. Aslam Siddiqui was born in 1915 on the V\festern border of the United Provinces of British India a few miles from the famous battlefield of Panipat. He graduated from Allahabad University in 1937. The same year he was selected by the Public Service Commission for the U.P. Local Fund Accounts Service. As an auditor he travelled throughout UP for nine years. He resigned from government service in 1946 and joined Habib Bank Ltd., in Bombay, as Selective Service Officer. At the time ofpa.rqtion he was the manager of the Chandni Chowk branch pf Habib Bankin Delhi. He held senior pdsitions as deputy managmg director National Bank oipakis~ and the Industri~lDevelopment Bank of Pakistan. In 1967 he was appointed managing director of Commerce Bank of Pakistan Ltd. Heheld this :gosiban until nationalization of banks in January 1974 by the Zulfi Bhutto goverrunent. IriMay 1974 he migrated to Hong Kong and joined the Bank of Credit and Commerce International as its chief representative for the Far East and SouthEast Asia and managing director BCCI Finance International Ltd. Hong Kong. He resigned from these positions in March 1982 and set up his own business in Hong kong as a financial consultant and security and exchange trader. The most impressionable period of Mr. Siddiqui's life was spent in the city of Allahabad, then political capital of Indian nationalism. His subsequent extensive travels worldwide enriched his understanding and comprehension of world events and the twists and turns of contemporary history ..He came to Pakistan and adopted it as his Utopia. He served as a bank executive for 26 years and spent about 20 years abroad. The 52 years of Pakistan's exiStence have been of continuous moral and material deterioration. This period has been one of excruciating disillusionment for any sane person. During a short span of time bigotry replaced tolerance, greed and avarice replaced charity and generosity, cruelty replaced mercy, fratricide replaced amity and respect for life, fascism replaced democracy, and coercion replaced reason and: persuasion.

And yet history has always ignored these ugly realities and shamelessly turned them into heroic exploits of kings and emperors, presidents and primeininisters. The sufferings of the masses, their hopes and frustrations, their hunger and thirst, the strangulation of their expectations, their death and destruction, have always been ignored as if they never existed. This book is a chronicle of the miseries inflicted on the real people of Pakistan by the wanton pygmies of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Larkana and Raiwind.
